Application form:

You will start this application by filling out the application form. In the application form, authorities seek details about the applicant and why he is applying for the German Schengen Visa.  

Suppose you have never applied for a Schengen Visa before. In that case, you are required to submit an application form and other visa documents in person, after making an appointment at the Embassy. In other cases, the applicant can submit the scanned documentation via mail.

Passport: Before applying for a German Schengen Visa, make sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after the intended date of return.

Photo Requirement: Your German Schengen Visa application form must be accompanied by two internationally recognized passport-size pictures.

Accommodation: The Embassy of Germany in Moscow requires itinerants to submit evidence regarding paid accommodation facilities.

Proof of booked and paid accommodation in Germany is to be sent to the Embassy/Consulate together with all the other documentation.

If you are staying with friends/relatives, a copy of their ID and Passport, as well as proof that they can support your stay, is mandatory.

Flight Reservation For Visa Application: Your German Schengen Visa application must be accompanied by a verifiable flight reservation for visa application.

A round-trip flight reservation entails a complete schedule including arrival and departure dates from the destination country, PNR codes, reservation codes, and IATA codes.

Travel Health Insurance: Valid health insurance covering the total number of days you will be staying in Germany is mandatory.

Bank Statement: A formal statement of your financial situation from the bank for the last 3 months is mandatory.

Status: If you are a student, you have to hand in proof of being enrolled in a tertiary educational institution as well as a formal letter from the designated authorities that permits you to travel during that period.

• If you are employed, a copy of your contract is mandatory, as well as a letter stating that the employer permits you to take the annual leave during that period.

• If self-employed, you must submit official documents confirming your business (e.g., a copy of CK1 registration papers/VAT Registration, including your name and proof of business activities).

• Minors

• Minors have to hand in the original birth certificate, among others.

• If they are traveling alone, the consent of both parents, represented by a signature in the application form and a formal letter, is requested.

• If they are traveling with one of the parents, the consent of both parents is still required.

• Depending on the purpose of your trip to Germany, there are slight differences in the type of documentation required.

• For a tourist visa, you will not be required to have any formal invitation letter of any sort.

• For a student’s visa, however, in addition to all the documentation above, you have to hand in the letter of acceptance at the educational institution you are planning to study in, as well as proof of financial sustainability for the time being in Germany (blocked bank account), among others.

• For a business trip, you will have to hand in a formal invitation letter from the parties residing in Germany, fully explaining the nature of your visit.

• For employment in Germany, you have to hand in your employer’s formal letter stating the posting you’ve been accepted for, a period of employment, nature of the job, and the exact dates of when you are expected to enter and leave the country.

Cover Letter for Visa Application: A cover letter for a visa application explains to the visa officer the core reason for applying for a German Schengen Visa in Russia. It must not contain any additional detail. Furthermore, the applicant must abstain from adding any further information in the cover letter.

Evidence of solvency: Embassies and consulates ask the applicant to prove their financial ability. For the said purpose, the applicant will submit a bank statement comprising the record of transactions of the previous three months.

Means of subsistence: It means to provide evidence to the German Embassy or consulate that the applicant has a sufficient amount of financial resources to bear his/her expenditures during his stay in the Schengen country. In the absence of proof of accommodation or hotel booking, the applicant is required to attest to the German Consulate or Embassy that they possess sufficient daily cash to meet their needs. 

Appear for Interview at Embassy of Germany in Moscow

In the last step, the applicant will appear for the interview at the Embassy of Germany in Moscow. The applicant must reach the embassy 30 minutes before the scheduled time. Otherwise, embassy staff will cancel the interview.
